Rejection and Discouragement

Whenever people step out of the box of custom and tradition, some level of rejection is inevitable. But Pastor Taffi has embraced the unavoidable snubs as being, simply, a part of the process ... nothing more. “We have had people reject us. As with everything, there will be people who are not open to our ministerial efforts. That can be discouraging. They say for every person leaving the sex industry, there are five more entering it. That can be disheartening, but we remain steadfast,” Taffi shares.

Not only has Pastor Taffi remained innovative and tenacious in her assignment, she has also garnered the trust and partnership of some unlikely supporters. “Sometimes bouncers and nightclub managers reach out to us when they have a girl who is strung out on drugs,” she says. “Ironically, for many of these girls, these nightclub managers are father-figures. It’s an interesting relationship.”

Not Always So Bold

Taffi Dollar Today, listening to Taffi Dollar speak, you would never believe that she used to struggle with fear and insecurity. Her personal journey from diffidence to boldness fuels her ministry. “For years, I struggled with insecurity and fear,” she openly shares. “Even in my marriage, the bondage of fear affected me. If we’re not careful, Fear can spread to other areas of our life if we don’t deal with it. As a child, my mother was a very strong matriarchal figure in our home. So when I began to read, study, and hear about the Christian way of honoring and respecting one’s husband, I felt insecure. I was accustomed to being independent, doing my own thing. I did not feel secure in acknowledging my husband as the ‘head.’ It was difficult for me to embrace this concept. But, I have learned that the root of insecurity is fear. I had to deal with it. I have made a decision to mature through life. It is a personal commitment of mine,” she continues.

Taffi Dollar’s maturity, authenticity, and humility have enabled her to turn her personal struggles into a source of strength for other women. Her ministry is relevant. It reflects the heart of a woman who understands the essence of true servanthood. There is no place (even in the trenches of prostitution) that is too abominable for Taffi Dollar to be sent. “I advise women in ministry to evaluate whether they really have a love for people,” she admonishes. “As ministers, we have to check our motives. This process never stops. It is a continual thing. It comes back to being authentic. We must live authentic lives and lead authentic ministries. If God sends us, we must go with a pure heart. Everything we do is about loving and serving the needs of people – no matter where they are.” c
