Out of the Box

Through Pastor Taffi’s leadership, Prestige has stepped outside the box of traditional ministry; using unorthodox (and possibly controversial) means to disseminate the Gospel. “We have paid for lap dances,” Taffi admits. “Once the young ladies come over, we tell them that we don’t actually want a lap dance; we simply want to speak to them. We do this in a respectful way because we know that they’re there to work. So we tell them about our ministry and resources in a timely manner.”

Lap dances? Strip clubs? This approach is undeniably radical. Stepping fearlessly into an alienated realm, outside the four walls of the sacred church, Taffi Dollar exemplifies what it means to be relevant and impactful. “This is the approach that Jesus took,” Taffi reflects. “He was willing to meet women where their needs were. He met the woman at the well. He met the woman with the alabaster box. He met the woman who was possessed by seven demons. I approach ministry by modeling the love that Jesus had for women,” she exclaims.

Taffi Dollar In addition to providing exotic dancers and prostitutes with prayer, counseling, and mentorship – Taffi’s ministry supplies housing, educational and entrepreneurship opportunities, life skills classes, and condoms. Yes, condoms! “We attempt to create an environment that is non-judgmental or condemning. We provide these women with physical toiletry items that they need – including condoms,” Taffi frankly states. “We have to meet people where they are. Obviously these women are involved in the sex trade industry. They have chosen this lifestyle. We give them the opportunity to be born again, but many of them don’t immediately respond. The bottom line is that these women have to want to change. If they choose to continue in this lifestyle, we love them right where they are. We tell them that ‘we love you and want you to be protected while you’re out here.’ This is practical stuff. Being ‘protected’ means that they need condoms.” Taffi candidly shares.

Through Prestige, Taffi also ministers by utilizing political avenues. “We’ve even been involved on the legislative level,” Taffi says. “We have gone down to the capitol, and met with the Governor, senators, district attorneys, and other members of law enforcement. We bring awareness to the people who have the power to change laws and make things better for the women we serve. This is serious, practical, everyday ministry. Every 30 minutes a girl is abducted into prostitution. Through Prestige, we use every means available to do something about it,” Taffi states.
