Protect It
Protect It

The Bible teaches that we need to protect what God has placed within us. Like a pregnant woman waiting to deliver, it may be necessary to limit — or even eliminate — certain interactions and habits until we birth the vision God has placed within us.

In Luke chapter 1, God answered Zechariah and Elizabeth’s prayers, and allowed them to supernaturally conceive their son, John. Verses 18-20 read:

"Zechariah asked the angel, ‘How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.’ The angel answered, ‘I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time" (New International Version).

Has the Lord placed something within you
that needs to be protected?

Are your words, relationships, habits, and activities nurturing or destroying it?

Zechariah’s account reveals that sometimes God will silence us — and other doubters in our lives — in order to protect the vision that He has given us. In the Message Bible, Proverbs 18:21 makes the power of words very clear: "Words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit — you choose."

Depending on what God is doing in us (and through us), He might also isolate us from naysayers. The Bible states in Luke 1:24 that "Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion." So do whatever it takes to protect your "baby.” If that means shutting your mouth, shut it! If that means isolating yourself from certain people, isolate yourself! If that means renewing your mind with the Word of God, renew your mind!
